Summary

A common structure or hierarchy across projects can help maintain consistency, ensure the presence of process deliverables, and facilitate the reuse of high-level components. When no template project is available, the structure can be replicated using the Sync Items window.

Best Practice

Using the Compare action in the View Synced Items window allows a user to selectively push elements of the hierarchy from one project to another, starting with 2 connected high-level components.

Resolution

  1. Create a new, empty project
  2. Create a single Component in the new Project
  3. Select View Details on the Source Component, Activate the Synchronized items widget, and connect the source component to the component in the new project
  4. Right click on the source Component and select View synced items
  5. In the resulting window, select the Compare option for the Component
  6. Filter the results to just show Components
  7. Use the green arrows to sync each Component into the empty project, building the hierarchy

NOTE: Do not use Sync All in the Header bar as that will sync all components and children
  8. If necessary, repeat steps 7 and 8 for Sets and Folders
