Summary

This article answers common questions about using the Jama Validation Kit (JVK) to validate a Jama Connect® instance. It explains what the JVK includes, how to obtain access, what validation activities Jama Software completes, and which responsibilities remain with the customer. It also clarifies regulatory expectations for validation and the difference between vendor verification and customer validation.

Resolution

1. Does Jama Software validate Jama Connect® before release?

Yes. Each supported version of Jama Connect® undergoes validation prior to commercial release. Jama Software certifies applicable releases through its Notified Body, TÜV SÜD.

2. Does Jama Software provide tools to help customers validate their configuration?

Yes. The Jama Validation Kit (JVK) provides documentation and test artifacts to help customers validate their specific configuration and intended use of Jama Connect®.

3. What is included in the Jama Validation Kit (JVK)?

The JVK includes the following artifacts:

  • Installation Qualification (IQ) Report (cloud-based customers only)

  • TÜV SÜD certificate and report

  • Process documentation

  • Critical workflows (Safety Manual)

  • Performance Qualification (PQ) report

  • Importable core workflows and test cases

  • PQ testing details

  • Team coverage report

  • Test case comparison report

  • Known defects list

  • Access to the Customer Feedback Forum

4. How do I get access to the JVK?

  1. Contact your Customer Success Manager to request a quote.

  2. After purchase, you will receive access to the Jama Validation Kit (JVK) community page.

  3. Download the latest version of the JVK from the community page.

5. How do I use the JVK after gaining access?

  1. Download the Importable Core Workflows and Test Cases file.

  2. Follow the instructions provided within the file to import the test cases into your Jama Connect® instance.

  3. Execute the test cases as part of your validation process and document objective evidence of results.

6. If I purchase the JVK, do I still need to validate my Jama Connect® instance?

Yes. Regulatory requirements state that software must be validated for its intended use. This requirement includes all configurations, workflows, integrations, and customizations within your specific Jama Connect® environment.

The JVK supports your validation efforts but does not relieve the customer of their responsibility to validate the system in its configured state.

7. What is required for Jama Connect® to be fully validated?

Validation typically includes three phases with documented objective evidence:

  1. Installation Qualification (IQ) – Completed by Jama Software (cloud) or by the customer (self-hosted).

  2. Operational Qualification (OQ) – Completed by Jama Software as part of release validation.

  3. Performance Qualification (PQ) – Completed by the customer to confirm fitness for intended use in their environment.

8. Are integrations such as Jama Connect Interchange™ or Planview covered in the JVK?

No. While integrations such as Jama Connect Interchange™ are tested prior to release, the JVK does not cover customer-specific integration configurations. Due to variability in environment setup and workflow customization, customers must validate integrations as part of their own Performance Qualification activities.
