Use Case
Managing complete System of Systems scenarios in systems engineering involves different teams working on systems and subsystems. Many variants are often created, and systems and subsystems are frequently reused.
Best Practice
When using a system of systems development approach, there are two options to facilitate reusing systems or subsystems. This typically begins with a single project containing all systems and subsystems, with the option of incorporating systems from one or more libraries. If the complexity of a system or the need for different teams to work on a system requires their project, the second option is to use multiple projects to support this use case.
Implementation
Option: One Single Project
The system and subsystems are organized logically in a single project in Jama. One benefit of this approach is that creating relationships is straightforward and contained within the project. The entire project or product can be included in one baseline when creating baselines. When projects become too complex and large, option two can be used.
Option 2: Multiple Projects
Systems or subsystems are divided into multiple projects. This allows for projects with fewer items and complexity and keeps teams within their projects.
More advanced considerations when implementing a system of systems setup in Jama Connect are, for example, integration with modeling tools for specific systems that need their project in Jama Connect or configuration management of the system and subsystems in their variants.
