- Onboarding Jama Connect®
Summary
Evaluate the effectiveness of your Jama Connect® implementation by measuring engineering process performance, analyzing results and user feedback, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
The Check phase begins after your initial deployment and should become an ongoing part of your Jama Connect operating model. Use measurements and benchmarking to understand current performance, prioritize improvements, and evaluate whether changes produce the intended results.
As your organization's use of Jama Connect matures, continue looking for opportunities to improve your processes and extend Jama Connect through reporting, integrations, and automation.

Resolution
Complete the Check Phase Checklist
Unlike the Ready, Set, and Go phases, Check is an ongoing cycle rather than a one-time milestone. Establish a recurring process in which:
- Measurements are taken.
- Metrics and trends are analyzed.
- User and stakeholder feedback is reviewed.
- Improvement opportunities are identified and prioritized.
- Process or Jama Connect changes are implemented.
- Results are measured again after improvements are deployed.
- Opportunities to extend Jama Connect are periodically evaluated.
Use this cycle to continuously improve your engineering processes and your organization's use of Jama Connect.
Benchmark
Objective: Measure engineering process performance to identify opportunities for improvement and help reduce the risk of adverse product outcomes.
Actions:
- Revisit the goals and expected business outcomes established during the Ready phase.
- Identify measurements that align with those goals.
- Establish baseline measurements where appropriate.
- Measure engineering process performance at regular intervals.
- Analyze results to identify gaps, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Compare results over time to evaluate progress.
- Work with Jama Software® when additional benchmarking, assessments, or analysis are needed.
Use measurements to inform decisions rather than treating metrics as an end goal. Focus on what the results indicate about your engineering processes and where improvements can provide meaningful value.

Improve Processes
Objective: Use measurements, process analysis, and user feedback to prioritize improvements and increase alignment between Jama Connect and your engineering processes.
Actions:
- Review your metrics and benchmarking results.
- Gather feedback from users, administrators, Core Team members, and other stakeholders.
- Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, or areas where Jama Connect could provide additional support.
- Prioritize improvement opportunities based on expected value, risk, effort, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Use the guidance from the Ready, Set, and Go phases to plan and implement improvements.
- Communicate changes to affected users.
- Provide additional training or guidance when processes or Jama Connect configurations change.
- Return to benchmarking after improvements are deployed to determine whether the changes produced the expected results.
Continuous improvement may require revisiting earlier onboarding activities. For example, a process improvement may require new goals, additional process analysis, configuration changes, training, or updated operational procedures.
Extend Jama Connect
Objective: Increase the value and reach of Jama Connect by identifying opportunities for reporting, integrations, and automation.
Before developing an extension, define the process need or business outcome it should address. This helps ensure that reporting, integration, and automation efforts support your broader engineering goals.
Evaluate Reporting Opportunities
Identify information that teams need to consume or share outside Jama Connect.
Actions:
- Identify the outputs your teams and stakeholders require from Jama Connect.
- Determine where standard exports meet your needs and where additional reporting may be beneficial.
- Create report mock-ups that show the expected content, structure, and formatting.
- Identify the Jama Connect data required to produce each report.
- Determine whether the report should be created internally or with assistance from Jama Software®.
Evaluate Integration Opportunities
Assess your organization's product development ecosystem to identify opportunities to connect Jama Connect with other systems.
Actions:
- Identify systems that exchange information with your engineering processes.
- Determine which information needs to move between systems.
- Establish which system should own the applicable data.
- Identify where integration could improve traceability, reduce duplicate work, or increase visibility.
- Evaluate available integration approaches before implementation.
Evaluate Automation Opportunities
Identify repetitive or manual Jama Connect activities that could be performed more efficiently through automation.
Actions:
- Identify repeated manual activities.
- Determine the expected benefit of automating each activity.
- Document the desired workflow and expected outcome.
- Evaluate whether Jama Connect APIs or other extension capabilities can support the use case.
- Test automation before introducing it into production processes.
- Document ownership and ongoing maintenance responsibilities for implemented automation.
Establish an Ongoing Improvement Cycle
The Check phase should continue throughout your organization's use of Jama Connect.
Use a recurring improvement cycle:
- Measure: Collect metrics and feedback to understand current performance.
- Analyze: Identify gaps, trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Prioritize: Determine which improvements will provide the greatest value.
- Improve: Use the Ready, Set, and Go guidance to plan and implement changes.
- Extend: Evaluate whether reporting, integrations, or automation can further support your processes.
- Measure Again: Reassess performance to determine whether the changes achieved the intended results.
Repeat this cycle as your engineering processes, teams, products, and use of Jama Connect evolve.
