Summary
When a Text Box field with rich text enabled is changed by an administrator to a Text Box field without rich text enabled (i.e., only plain text allowed), what happens to any existing rich text content (e.g., images, links, formatting) that was in those fields?
The existing rich text content will remain in the Text Box fields, and when that field on an item is edited, the rich text content will be immediately deleted.
Note that after changing the field to a plain text box, exports from this field will be rendered as plain text.
Resolution
Carefully consider the impacts to rich text data before changing a text box from rich text to plain text.
