Summary

In Jama Connect rich‑text fields, any content inside angle brackets (e.g., <abc>) is omitted when exporting to Excel because Excel interprets it as HTML markup rather than plain text.

When using other bracket types is not an acceptable solution, Velocity reports can be used to convert angle brackets to similar looking characters in Excel exports.

Resolution

  1. The primary way to avoid this behavior is to use different bracket types instead of angle brackets.

    • i.e., instead of <abc>, use {abc}, [abc], (abc). Other bracket types besides angle brackets can be exported to Excel as expected using the default export.

  2. When angle brackets must be used, Velocity scripts can be used to replace the angle brackets with similar looking characters, allowing Excel to render the content as expected.

    • For example, <abc>, using angle brackets, is replaced with <abc>, using similar looking special characters.
