Summary

If a rich text field contains special characters or punctuation (e.g., ® or "ü"), editing the field without actually changing its content—such as pressing arrow keys or Cmd/Ctrl + C—can enable the Save and Done button. If pressed, this creates a new version of the item even though the content appears unchanged in the Compare Versions view.

Solution

Delete all special characters from the rich text fields in the item.

If the issue persists, check the source code of each rich text field. Some characters may not be visible in the normal editor view. Remove any hidden special characters found.
