Entra Message Upon Login: "AADSTS700016"

Summary

When attempting to login via SAML or use SAML E-Signature functionality, users receive this message:

Message: AADSTS700016: Application with identifier '<Entity ID Listed Here' was not found in the directory 'Entra Name'. This can happen if the application has not been installed by the administrator of the tenant or consented to by any user in the tenant. You may have sent your authentication request to the wrong tenant.

 

Resolution

The most likely cause of this issue is a mismatch between what is listed in the IdP under 'Entity ID' and what is sent via the SAML Request. Confirm that the correct Entity ID is in place. For Azure Entra:

Go to the Azure Portal -> Enterprise Applications -> Select your application -> Single Sign-on. Check that the "Identifier (Entity ID)" matches the identifier sent by the application.
