ReqIF Export from Filter Produces Empty File (“0 SpecObjects Retrieved”)

Summary

When exporting items from Jama Connect to DOORS using ReqIF and selecting Export Method: Filter, the export might finish but produce an empty ReqIF file. The conversation logs may show the message:

'Exporting 0 total as Spec Objects.'

This can happen even if the filter returns multiple items.

The problem occurs when the filter contains only one item type, and the items do not have a parent of the same type. For example, items whose parent is a folder instead of a set, and when no set exists for that item type, may cause the export process to skip those objects. As a result, the export does not create the expected SpecObjectType definition or SpecObjects in the ReqIF file.

This behavior can lead to an export that completes successfully but contains no items.

A permanent fix is being developed. Until then, the approach below can be used.

Resolution

Ensure Filter Results Include a Set per Item Type

Update the project structure or filter results so that each item type included in the filter meets the required export condition.

The filter should contain at least one item with a set parent of the same item type, or an empty set of that same item type. This condition must be satisfied for each item type present in the filter results.

For example, if the filter contains items from three different item types, one of the following must exist:

  • At least one item per item type with a set parent of the same item type, or
  • Three empty sets, with one set representing each of those item types.

After ensuring these conditions are met, run the export again.

If the issue persists after testing the steps outlined in this article, contact Jama Support and mention that you have already tested the solution described here, and include the filter configuration and relevant export logs.
