Can't Create Workflow Item Without Picklist Default

Summary

This specific issue occurs in 9.22.3. When creating an item that has: an associated Workflow which references a required Predefined 'lookup' field that uses a Picklist without a default the item will fail to create with the following error.

Resolution

As a workaround,

1. Set a default value for the picklist

2. Log out and log back in again

3. Attempt to create the item again

Now the required field will be populated with the picklist default value.  You still can't select any other values, but at least you can create the item and the initial workflow value will be set upon creation.

This issue is being address as an open defect (SOS-DEF-9335).  As of now, the exact release that will include the fix has not been specified.
