Jama Connect v9.31.0

Jama Connect Advisor — Requirement Refinement

One of the biggest hidden drivers of schedule delays, rework, and quality failures is poorly written requirements. Requirement Refinement automatically elevates requirement clarity during authoring and review, helping organizations control complexity, reduce avoidable defects, and improve predictability across the entire product lifecycle.

Requirement Refinement transforms low-quality or ambiguous requirements into clear, complete, and actionable statements using the results of Requirement Quality Analysis. It preserves the author’s intent while eliminating defects in structure, clarity, and wording, giving teams higher-quality inputs without extra manual effort.

Key Benefits

  • Improves requirement clarity and consistency across teams and suppliers
  • Reduces downstream rework by catching and correcting issues at the source
  • Increases engineering flow by removing manual cleanup and clarification cycles
  • Strengthens auditability and compliance with cleaner, standards-aligned requirements
  • Delivers higher-quality inputs to design, verification, safety, and other downstream functions

Feature Highlights

  • After performing the Quality Analysis on a requirement, the slide-over panel now includes a Refine button.
  • Selecting Refine sends the original requirement, any INCOSE rules broken, and any EARS errors to the AI model for analysis, providing a suggested rewrite of the requirement. If the model determines the requirement should be broken into multiple requirements, it provides suggestions for how it should be restructured.
  • The suggested rewrite includes the updated requirement text, an explanation of what was changed, and an updated INCOSE and EARS score.
  • You can copy/paste the suggestion over your original requirement or, if you want to maintain the original requirement as-is, you can add a new item or sub-item for the new requirement.
  • If multiple requirements are suggested, you have the option to add all requirements as items or sub-items.
  • Mark the suggested rewritten requirements as Helpful or Unhelpful to provide feedback that allows us to update our model accordingly.
  • When updating the requirement with one of the Refinement suggestions, a version comment is recorded for auditability: "Rewritten by Jama Connect Advisor Refinement."

Enhanced Test Management Activities

We have upgraded several areas of Activities for clearer insights into changes your teams make, helping you work with more control, accountability, and confidence.

What's improved

  • Increased visibility into team actions — Easily see who did what and when, reducing the risk of errors or unauthorized changes.
  • Stronger audit trails — Stay audit-ready with detailed activities that support key compliance standards like ISO or FDA.
  • Faster trouble-shooting — Quickly trace and resolve issues or discrepancies with richer, more structured activity data.
  • Built-in accountability — Transparent tracking helps teams maintain consistent, compliant, and high-quality processes.

Why you'll love it

These enhancements make it easier to maintain trust, meet compliance requirements, and keep your operations running smoothly, all while improving day-to-day visibility and decision-making.

REST API Updates

As a result of these changes, if your organization utilizes our /activity endpoints, a handful of activities will appear slightly different beginning with Jama Connect 9.31.

  • Create cycle and delete cycle logs now have their itemType changed from the containing testCycle to the containing testPlan and the item ID now points to those respective items.
  • Batch delete test run logs previously had no itemType value. These now point to the containing testPlan as well.
  • A number of new activity logs now correspond to the increased logging we've added.

Performance Safeguards for Large-Scale User Actions

To ensure the performance of Jama Connect, we are introducing safeguards to protect your instance from costly user actions. These safeguards provide direction to users who attempt large-scale actions that could adversely affect the performance of your instance. For example, a bulk update to 5,000 or more items. In addition to introducing these safeguards, we are further elevating Jama Connect's industry-leading scalability.

Safeguards introduced in Jama Connect 9.31:

  • Categories: 5,000 (up from 50)
  • Batch edit: 5,000 (up from recommendation of 250)
  • Batch delete: 5,000 (up from recommendation of 250)
  • Batch workflow transition: 5,000 (up from recommendation of 250)

Excel Roundtrip Update

Users performing updates via Excel Roundtrip now see time included with any date fields in the spreadsheet. This ensures when importing the spreadsheet that items won't be incorrectly versioned when applying a default time to a date that has an existing value in the system. This is in response to addressing defect SOS-DEF-9104.

Resolved Issues

ID Description
SOS-DEF-5894 When you select all items in List View, the Manage Categories option now appears when you have more than one page of items.
SOS-DEF-7119 From the REST API, a user with multiple Project Admin privileges can now unlock a locked item.
SOS-DEF-8830 When you edit a diagram with more than 100% zoom no longer clears the diagram.
SOS-DEF-8847 You can now append an .rar attachment to an item. If needed, please contact support to have the extension added to the allow list.
SOS-DEF-9104 When you use Excel Roundtrip for custom and predefined date fields, time information is now included and version issues no longer occur.
SOS-DEF-9179 The blue lock icon is now correctly displayed for system-locked items.
SOS-DEF-9199 In the attachment list, the correct results are now displayed for attachments that were included in deleted documents.
SOS-DEF-9238 From the REST API, the False Flag field is now included in "Get Items."
