Summary

This article explains how system-locked items behave within the Explorer Tree which is intentional. System-locked items are protected to prevent modification or movement that could affect predefined configurations. However, moving their parent container does not compromise these protections, so it remains allowed.

By the end of this article, you will understand why individual locked items cannot be moved, how to move them as part of a larger container, and what actions remain allowed with locked containers.

Resolution

To work with system-locked items in the Explorer Tree, follow these guidelines:

  1. Understand move restrictions:
    •  Individual system-locked items cannot be moved on their own.
  2. Move the parent container instead:
    • If you need to relocate system-locked items, move the entire set or container (such as a folder) that holds them.
    • The container can be moved to a different location within the Explorer Tree without unlocking the items.
    • Moving a parent container does not technically move the system-locked child items within the parent container. Each system-locked child item retains its reference to the same parent through its parent item API key. As a result, the item's relationship to its parent remains unchanged, and the system lock is not compromised. This differs from attempting to move a system-locked item individually, which is not allowed.
  3. Add new items if needed:
    • Even if a container is locked, you can still add new items to it.
    • This allows continued organization or expansion without altering locked content.

To prevent this from happening:

  • Before locking items, ensure they are placed in their intended final location.

  • Use containers (folders or sets) to group items so they can be moved collectively if needed later.

  • Review configuration workflows to minimize the need for relocating locked content.
