Use Case
The Reuse source project hierarchy in the destination project option behaves differently depending on whether you choose to sync the reused items. Understanding this behavior ensures your destination project maintains the desired structure and synchronization settings.
Best Practice
The Reuse source project hierarchy in the destination project option is a powerful feature of the Reuse action. However, it is essential to consider how the other Reuse options—particularly syncing items and sharing Global IDs—affect the outcome in your destination project.
Implementation
1. Empty Destination Project
When reusing into an empty project, or a project whose content does not match the names in the source project hierarchy:
The hierarchy from the source project will be created along with the reused item.
-
If Sync items and share Global ID is checked:
All items, including the hierarchy, will be marked for syncing.
2. Project With Matching Hierarchy
When reusing into a project that already contains a hierarchy with matching names:
-
If the option to sync items is selected:
Existing hierarchy items are ignored.
New items will be created to match the source hierarchy.
-
If the option to sync items is not selected:
The existing hierarchy will be used.
Reused items will be placed within the existing hierarchy in the destination.
Names of existing Components, Sets, and Folders will be matched with the source project hierarchy.
