Summary
This article explains how to route Jira issues to specific Jama Connect® folders using Field Mapping Groups in Jama Connect Interchange™ (JCI).
By setting up multiple field mapping groups with creation rules, you can ensure that mirrored Jira items appear in different locations in the Jama Connect explorer tree based on specific criteria, such as labels, workflow status, or other custom fields.
For example:
- Jira Epics with Label A → Folder A in Jama Connect
- Jira Epics with Label B → Folder B in Jama Connect
This ensures proper organization, reduces duplicate or incomplete items, and supports traceability.
Resolution
Step 1: Create a Field Mapping Group for Each Target Folder
- In Jama Connect Interchange™, create a separate field mapping group for each destination folder.
- Select the primary Jama location for each group (this determines where new items will appear in the explorer tree).
- If using bi-directional creation, ensure each mapping group points to only one primary Jama location to avoid duplicate mirrored items in Jira.
Step 2: Map the Desired Fields
- Configure the necessary field mappings for each integration item type.
- For guidance on field mapping setup, see: [Setup Jira Integration using Jama Connect Interchange™ (JCI)].
Step 3: Add Creation Rules for Each Field Mapping Group
- Creation rules control when items are mirrored between Jira and Jama Connect.
- Without a rule, any new item in one system is immediately mirrored in the other.
- Example: Mirror Jira Epics to Jama Connect only if they have a specific label or are in a certain workflow status.
Example – Routing by Label:
- Mapping Group 1 → Creation Rule: Label = “Label A” → Folder A
- Mapping Group 2 → Creation Rule: Label = “Label B” → Folder B
- Mapping Group 3 → Creation Rule: Label = “Label C” → Folder C
💡 Tip: You can combine criteria (e.g., label + workflow status) to ensure only reviewed or approved items are mirrored, reducing draft or incomplete data in Jama Connect.
