Why Are Items Unexpectedly Locked by Users in Jama Connect?

Summary

Items in Jama Connect become “locked by user” if someone began editing but didn’t finish the action properly. This locking behavior is intended to prevent multiple users from editing the same item at the same time.

Solution

To resolve a user-locked item, either the user who initiated the edit or an administrator can unlock the item.

Cause

An item automatically becomes user-locked when a user begins editing it. This lock ensures only one user can make changes at a time.


If the user exits Jama Connect without pressing Save & Done or Cancel — such as by closing the browser tab, losing connection, or allowing their session to time out — the item remains locked.

Prevention

To avoid leaving items locked:

  • Always click Save & done or Cancel after editing an item.
  • Be mindful of session timeouts and save changes regularly.
  • Encourage users to finish or cancel edits before stepping away from Jama Connect.
