Summary
This article explains why an Excel Round Trip in Jama Connect cannot be canceled once it begins and how to prevent long-running updates.
Round trips allow users to batch-edit items or test cases and create new items or test steps for import. When processing large volumes of complex data, the task may take minutes, hours, or longer to complete. Because the system runs these tasks in the background, users cannot cancel them from the user interface once they start.
Planning updates carefully and dividing large data sets into smaller batches helps prevent long processing times and reduces the risk of incomplete updates.
Resolution
Use the following best practices when running round trips or batch updates:
Plan large updates in advance.
Review the number of items involved and evaluate whether the update should be divided into smaller batches.Break large data sets into smaller groups.
Process items in manageable segments rather than all at once. Smaller batches reduce processing time and system strain.Limit complex filters and large manual selections.
Complex queries and high item counts increase processing time.Allow background tasks to complete once started.
The system does not support canceling a roundtrip from the user interface. Interrupting the process may result in incomplete updates. If changes need to be corrected, allow the task to complete before starting a new round trip.
For future updates, process items in smaller batches to minimize long-running tasks.
Following these guidelines helps maintain system performance, prevents incomplete updates, and ensures efficient task completion.
