Summary
Users may use the “Item Path” concept in Advanced Filters to narrow results by where items are located in the project hierarchy (for example, a specific branch such as “B → X1”).
Based on the Jama Connect® help guidance for Create or edit an advanced filter, filters are designed to define a specific project scope and granular conditions using supported fields and the item structure. There is no “Item Path” field available in Advanced Filters.
Instead, hierarchy-based filtering is supported through the Location parameter, which allows users to:
- Scope results in specific containers within the selected project or project scope
- Include or exclude specific containers within that hierarchy
This ensures filters remain efficient, performant, and aligned with how Jama Connect® structures project data (via item containers rather than path strings).
Resolution
To filter items based on their position in the project structure:
Use the supported Location filter
- Navigate to the Filters tab in the Explorer Tree.
- Select Add filter to create a new advanced filter.
- Define the filter name and select the specific project
- Choose the appropriate item type or All Item Types.
- In the filter criteria section, add a condition.
- Select Location as the condition field.
- Choose one or more containers from the project hierarchy (for example: Project → B → X1).
- Configure the filter logic:
- Include items in selected locations
- Exclude items in selected locations (if supported by filter logic)
- (Optional) Add additional rules or condition groups to further refine results.
- Select Preview results to validate output.
- Select Save to store the filter.
How this aligns with Jama Connect® filter design
Based on the Jama Connect® help guidance:
- Filters are intended to be granular and scoped to improve performance.
- Location is available to the specific project so you will need to select that option.
- Conditions should be specific to avoid overly broad results.
- Hierarchy-based filtering is handled through structured fields such as Location, not through string-based paths.
