Test Group Ordering In Test Cycle Is Not Alphabetical

Summary

This article goes over the Test group sorting in the test cycle page. You may see sometimes that after you sort by Test group (either ascending or descending) in the Test Cycle page, it won't be in alphabetical order.

Resolution

This is actually by design. For the other available columns, the sort order will be by alphabetical order. But with the Test groups, the order is dictated by how the Test Groups are ordered in the "Test Cases" tab of the Test Plan at the time of the Test Cycle creation. You can see an example below:
 

As you can see, the Test Group ordering in the test cycle is dictated by the Test group ordering in the Test Cases tab at the time of the Test Cycle creation.
