Summary

This article explains how to check whether a Requirements Interchange Format (ReqIF) file is valid according to the official standard and how customers can upload their ReqIF data to a third-party online tool to generate and download a validation report.

ReqIF (Requirements Interchange Format) file is an XML-based standard format used to exchange requirements data between different requirements-management tools.

Typical file extensions:

  • .reqif — standard XML file

  • .reqifz — zipped archive of one or more ReqIF files

Solution

Web-based Validator Tool

  1. Visit the ReqIF File Validator

  2. Upload your ReqIF file:

    • Supported formats: .reqif.reqifz, or .zip containing one or more .reqif files.

    • Maximum file size: ~500 MB.

  3. Start validation:
The server reads your file and checks it against the ReqIF specification and schema.

  4. View errors/warnings:

    • Errors indicate violations of the standard.

    • Warnings indicate best-practice or implementation guide issues.

  5. Download the report:

    • After validation, a download button allows you to save the report (usually in JSON format) with all errors and warnings.
