Summary

When migrating Test Case and Test Step data into Jama Connect, steps can be imported alongside the Test Case using spreadsheet (see guide).

But sometimes when migrating data from ReqIF format or an alternative tool like CodeBeamer to Jama Connect, Test Steps are imported as separate items in the database.

It is best practice to consolidate these test step items into the Test Step field of a Test Case so that users can take advantage of Jama Connect's out of the box test cycle and test run execution capability

Solution

Use Jama Connect Roundtrip for Excel to export the step items and re-import them back to Jama as a consolidated Test Case item with Test Step field.

Steps

Import ReqIF steps as test case item type, typically they will come in as child items in Jama Connect

Baseline in Jama for safety so you can roll back any unintended changes during Roundtrip Import.

Ensure test steps have html Rich Text enable

Export all test case items + step children to roundtrip excel

In Excel clear out API ID for all the test step rows (so only API id remains for the parent rows - can use filter and excel “select only visible rows)

Copy API id of parent test case to align with the first step row only (eg just pull down the entire API id column by 1 row).

Copy Test Case Name down thru ever Test Step Row

Eliminate / Delete the original parent test case row (as it has no test steps)

End result should look like this

Save excel file- Roundtrip import - map test case name and step fields only

Roundtrip puts all the steps in the parent item

After some data validation, Batch delete all the child test step items in Jama
