Overview
This article clarifies whether user admin privileges are required to run Data Exchange (DX) in Jama Connect and provides updates on DX development status.
1. Do Users Need Admin Privileges to Run Data Exchange?
✔ Users DO NOT need Organization Admin privileges to run Data Exchange.
✔ Previously, "user admin privileges" were required, but this restriction has been relaxed.
✔ The updated DX user guide no longer mentions admin restrictions.
🚨 Note: While admin privileges are no longer required, having elevated permissions may improve performance, particularly during exports.
2. DX Development Status & Transition to JCI ReqIF
🔹 DX is no longer actively developed for new features.
🔹 Only critical bug fixes and maintenance updates are provided.
🔹 A new ReqIF solution for JCI is being developed by Debbie Mitchell's team, which will eventually replace DX.
🔹 Users should evaluate whether DX meets their needs "as-is" before committing to it for long-term use.
3. Best Practices for DX Users Moving Forward
✅ Ensure your user guide is up to date—the admin requirement has been removed.
✅ Evaluate whether DX meets your needs as-is before adoption.
✅ If compatibility with ReqIF vendors is critical, consult the JCI ReqIF team for future solutions.
✅ Be aware that DX may become harder to maintain over time due to its complexity and lack of new feature development.
4. Conclusion
✔ DX no longer requires user admin privileges to run.
✔ The requirement was removed from the user guide.
✔ DX is no longer in active development—future ReqIF solutions will be built into JCI.
✔ Users should evaluate DX carefully before committing to it.
